The Battle of Fort William Henry is the subtitle. This famous battle, which has been retold many times and dramatized in The Last of the Mohicans, is given a fresh treatment, primarily with the help of material found in the Loudon Papers in the Huntingdon Museum. Eyewitness accounts of the siege are supplemented with excerpts from Kilby's Journal, Maj. William Eyre's Reprt and the Monro-Webb correspondence, which is reproduced herein. This work is further enriched with biographical sketches of the leading officers of both sides, a muster roll of Rogers' Rangers, documents pertaining to the 35th Regiment of Foot (Monro's regiment) and the Monro documents, with some surprising little-known information about Monro.
